weed or flower?

I plucked a few of them and stuck them in the cleanest corner of my kitchen. You wouldn’t be able to tell from this picture, but the rest of the room is covered in boxes and packing material. Sigh. Anyways, this girl could get used to having fresh flowers in the kitchen. This girl will not get used to the wallpapered flowers in the kitchen. Those are scheduled to be removed.
As I’ve been messing around in the yard, I’ve had to play a little game of “weed or flower?” with several separate plants. I am clueless.
So, what do you think? Weed or flower?
Bonus points if you can tell me the name of this one! It’s about 12-18″ tall and is located in the partial-full sun part of the garden.

Are all three pics of the same plant? The first two look the same but the third with the flower looks different. The first two look pretty organized to be a weed. I would wait out the first year and see what blooms but the minute you decide it is ugly or is a weed, yank it out before it sends seeds everywhere or you will be playing this game forever. Some plants could be late bloomers; Aug or Sept. so don’t be too hasty. I’m clueless on that third picture.
Also, I remember my grandma’s peonies always had ants on them but that has not happened to mine…perhaps they have propagated an ant-free variety?

The third is a picture of a different plant, but I thought they might be the same thing since the leaves are kind of shaped similarly? I didn’t find many ants on mine, either, but you’re right – I seem to remember peonies having tons of ants on them. Good thing there’s no food in the kitchen for them to get into – the chocolate and beer are in the fridge – dinner of champions!

And the leaves look exactly like my coneflowers, which are not weeds and are quite lovely. I’d leave them.

Not sure about the plants………but watch out for Garlic Mustard.
We have been battling this invasive weed for years. We even go into our neighbors yards to eradicate this evil weed.

“Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them”…a bit of wisdom from Eeyore
I say let them grow and see what happens, you can always pull them out later. Actually, I have something in my garden that has been there since we bought the place. It grows without care, has beautiful interesting foliage, clumps of white fragrant flowers every June/July, and attracts bees and butterflies like crazy…what more can you ask for? No one who has seen it seems to know what it is. I have never found it in a garden store or catalog and yet it doesn’t seem to grow randomly all over my neighborhood. I have no idea if it is a weed or not, but it comes back year after year and looks good where it sits, so I leave it. Good luck and I love the peonies.
